The day has come where mixed reality is the norm. As the gaming landscape evolves, studios are blurring the line between the real world and augmented reality.

This week, Google announced a new offering for building real-word games using Google Maps. They’re opening their mapping platform to allow game developers to more easily create real-world games.

Buildings and roads are being transformed into sci-fi landscapes and fantasy realms.

It’s no wonder that we’ve witnessed a new wave of location-based games announced recently, and games bringing popular fictional worlds, like the Walking Dead, Jurassic World and the next Pokemon Go, into the real world might be on the way.

Patrick Donelan, lead engineer on the project, said, ‘In this way, you can create unique game environments that still feel connected to the real world.’

Apparently, there will even be iconic locations, like the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower and Burj Khalifa in the next Walking Dead game.

It will certainly be a breathtaking experience for gamers and a lucrative one for developers.
