Cartoon of the Week: YouTube to cut ties with Logan Paul

Logan Paul, the famous golden boy, recently posted an infamous video of a dead man for his millions of fans to see.

The 22-year-old vlogger headed into Japan’s Aokigahara forest, known as one of the most popular places in the world to commit suicide, and shared to his 15 million subscribers a video of a man who had taken his own life just hours before.

In the few hours after it was uploaded, the video collected more than 6 million views and YouTube even put it in its trending section.

But YouTubers called out Paul and heavily criticised him, claiming that suicide should never be a ‘driving force for views’. He deleted the video straight away.

Paul said that his intentions were to raise awareness around mental health. But was it really necessary to show the body? After all, the unfortunate man’s loved ones will recognise him.

Now you may ask how YouTube treated one of its top earners following the controversial video.

YouTube has decided to cut ties with Paul and the streaming platform will start by cancelling his lucrative Google Preferred ad deal. This is what YouTube said earlier this week:

‘In light of recent events, we have decided to remove Logan Paul’s channels from Google Preferred. Additionally, we will not feature Logan in season 4 of Foursome and his new Originals are on hold.’

Paul will still be able to monetise his videos, but not like he used to. His digital empire has been shaken and he won’t be earning the same money per click.

Although Paul has apologised on his official Twitter account, his image has been badly hurt and YouTube cutting ties is not the only punishment he’ll get.
